A person’s ability to cope is put to the test when they are faced with significant change, trauma, loss and grief. At The Listening Centre we understand this; and we offer personalised and supportive Critical Incident Management.

The Listening Centre’s Critical Incident support, otherwise referred to as Psychological First Aid, provides professional, respectful care and support to individuals and teams following a stressful or traumatic event.

Why use Critical Incident and Trauma support?

The level of trauma that a person, or team, experiences can range greatly and depends on their own individual interpretation of the event and prior life experiences. This is why a tailored and personalised approach to Critical Incident Support is crucial to the safe and healthy return to work, and life, of an individual.

Our services are aimed at responding to the affected team, or individual, as soon as practical so that the risks of post-traumatic stress, and other stresses, are reduced.

What is Critical Incident and Trauma support?

At The Listening Centre, we follow a structured psychological first aid process for an individual, or group of employees, to discuss, reflect and provide support following: a critical incident, such as a death, accident or trauma; a redundancy; or difficult and sudden workplace changes.

The Benefits of Critical Incident and Trauma Support

Research shows that an individual’s motivation to remain at their workplace is greatly impacted by how much support they receive during times of significant change. Therefore, access to Critical Incident Support can be crucial to an employee’s level of workplace satisfaction and performance. Critical Incident Support can also provide the following benefits.

  • A safe and structured framework to discuss and work through challenging situations.
  • A forum for employees to voice the positive and negative effects of the situation.
  • Personalised support to help employees understand individual responses to an incident; and develop individual coping skills.
  • Strategies for moving forward, including how to support self and others.
  • Access to resources that enhance relaxation, clarity of thought and decrease stress around the situation.

Critical Incident Defusing is a crucial step following a sudden or traumatic event affecting individuals or a team. It not only ensures productivity is maintained following the incident, but also shows care and empathy by attending to staff concerns and wellbeing needs.

The Listening Centre’s Critical Incident Defusing services can be provided at your workplace, or at an alternative convenient location.
